ABOUT ME
I have been providing care for over 15 years.
I come from a long line of caregivers in my family, and we all pride ourselves in what we do.
I started out providing care for both of my grandparents in their home until my grandfather passed in hospital in 2004, and in home for my grandmother until she was placed in LTC in 2009 for severe dementia.
I finally made my caregiving passion a qualified one when I graduated from the PSW course with honours in 2012.
In 2013 I started providing in home care for my parents until my father passed in 2014, and now I care solely for my mother.
I have worked in all aspects of care in LTC facilities, Retirement Communities, and Home Care.
I specialize in care for Alzheimers and Dementia patients as well as palliative care. I like to be someone that the family can count on to take care of their loved one while they can't be there to do it themselves. Giving family that peace of mind that their family is being taken care of, in a safe, and dignified manner.
I give them the utmost of privacy, respect, and dignity that I would expect and want for my own family.
I am a strong advocate for seniors staying in the comfort of their own homes for as long as medically possible.
I enjoy speaking with groups of health care students and seniors about care, and the level of care that is not only required, but expected, from the ones in our care as well as their family members.
I was often asked to return to the college I graduated from to speak with the students that were either about to start their practicum placements, or about to go out into the workplace.
I am a strong advocate for superior care for our seniors, and ones that are most vulnerable. I focus on providing care that is based around compassion, patience, and common sense. I also speak about always remembering respect, and dignity. I am very passionate about ensuring that everyone is given the best care possible within our scope of practice, and treating each and every client as if they were a member of our own family.

S.C.R.U.B.S. CARE
S.C.R.U.B.S. Care was designed to provide Non-Medical Platinum Care for, as well as advocate for, the seniors and vulnerable that are put in our care.
ALL PSW's employed by S.C.R.U.B.S. Care are fully verified. They are vetted with a national criminal background check, identification check, credential check, ID badge, and individual professional liability insurance through their membership with The Ontario Personal Support Workers Association.
You have peace of mind that the person providing your care is not only who they say they are, but have completed an accredited education program, and not only hold a high standard of care, but also adhere strictly to a superior code of ethics, and accountability.
Aside from providing home care, I also offer public speaking in group settings to educate our seniors on what they can, and should, expect from the care providers that are given to them to assist with their personal care, whether it be in their private home, or retirement community, or LTC (long term care / nursing home) I educate them on what their rights are and how to address any questions, concerns, or even fears, but most of all, give them the empowerment to stay in control of their own care.
I also speak to groups of care providers (PSW's) to remind them that they are there to provide care in a safe, respectful, dignified manner with compassion and patience. I also speak with schools where PSW's are graduating, and offer them the opportunity to speak candidly about the profession, and ask questions about the reality of the every day life of being a PSW, what our goals and expectations are, and reminding them about accountability to the ones we care for.
I believe that these issues are of the highest priority to both groups due to our rapidly increasing aging community, and the often short staffed, and over worked care providers that care for them.
Keeping these issues at the forefront of care, and keeping the discussions open will help keep our vulnerable safe.

WHAT IS A PSW?
A Personal Support Worker (PSW) is an individual who assists those with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's). Often associated with the elderly, a PSW may also work with children and/or all other vulnerable members of society.
Under the direction of an RN, an RPN, private client or POA of a private client, a PSW aids in the care needs for their client as stated in their client/resident's care plan. Duties often include dressing, bathing, toileting, transferring, emotional/physical/mental support, companionship etc. PSWs are front line workers and are often the first professional to notice changes in a clients well being. For example, changes in appetite or the beginning stages of skin breakdown. PSWs are VITAL in the success of client care.
